We partner with the team at the Interpersonal Therapy Clinic to hold Clinical Yoga sessions.
What’s clinical yoga?
It’s a practice that combines the body work of yoga with the mind work of therapy into one class. Yoga offers a unique somatic intervention to complement therapy because movement helps integrate learning. Research has shown that kinesthetic learning can significantly help with concentration, memory, and overall cognitive processing.
The format for the session will begin with a clinical introduction to the topic, followed by an opening meditation. The class will then participate in a series of journaling prompts and yoga sequences, ending with an integrated meditation. Participants are required to bring a yoga mat and a journal. A pillow or cushion is recommended, and a blanket (if desired).
Duration: 90 minutes
what to expect
A clinical yoga workshop is a 90-minute session that combines clinically-based therapeutic coaching and Vinyasa-style yoga together in one experience.
Each session begins with a short introduction to the topic from a psychotherapeutic standpoint. Common themes around the session’s topic are shared and participants are given time for reflection and journaling.
Following the introduction, the class participates in a guided meditation centered around the session’s topic.
From there, the rest of the format takes students through sequences of clinical coaching, prompted journaling, and yoga flows — all rooted in the central theme of the class.
Throughout the experience, participants are encouraged to journal any and all thoughts, impressions, and insights that arise from the teachings or yoga sequences.
Finally, a closing meditation is offered to fully integrate learnings from the session.

what people have to say
Each session is created around a central theme. We share coaching prompts — insights based in clinical psych ed — for reflection, conversation, and journaling. In between each coaching prompt is a yoga flow. Sometimes the clinical psych principles and the yoga overlap and the class moves while it learns. Other times there are clear breaks to keep the content and the mind fresh.
